i love boca i love argentine :D

Answer: Boca Juniors are probably one of the top 10 biggest clubs in the world. Their international popularity is sort of harmful for Argentine pro football, though, because their popularity abroad (and in the domestic sense, too) comes at the expense of other successful clubs in the country. I mean, how many Boca fans abroad are aware that another club in Argentina has won more Copa Libertadores Titles than Boca ? That club is Internacional. They have won 7 Copa Libertadores Titles. Boca has won 6. San Lorenzo is another club with a full trophy cabinet that many fans are oblivious to...they have 13 Argentine Titles, last in the 2007 Clausura (no Copa Lib. titles though). I root for Velez Sarsfield (6 Argentine Titles, last in 2005 Clausura, and 1 Copa Libertadores Title, in 1994).

Hello, Sam from Hasta El Gol Siempre here. Good guess as to the reason, Bill - the two competing FAs are the reason River and Boca both won a league title in 1920. For the record, River won the Asociación Amateurs de Football league title, whilst Boca claimed the Asociación Argentina de Football trophy. Despite the name of the latter, both leagues were in fact amateur. Likewise, Racing and Boca both won in 1919, Huracán and Racing both won in 1921, etc., all because of these side-by-side associations. It doesn't half make it difficult when you're trying to work out all-time standings, as we discovered when putting this map together!

A: Wow, thanks, Sam... that was timely. Thanks for allowing me to resolve that loose end. Now hopefully we can stick a fork in this one.

Hi Bill,

Fantastic website, these maps are invaluable. The pedant in me is compelled though to point out a couple of errors or typos in the Argentina map to do with title winners. I checked with Wiki and there are a few problems, for example you list Boca and River Plate as having won the 2000 Clausura title, and they apparently both won the title in 1920. There may be more like this, but I didn't check the whole list, these two stood out.

Small errors though, and pallid criticism indeed of an exceptional site which shows a good deal of hard work and research. Fantastic. Now, how about a good profile on the pride of Brum, Aston Villa???

cheers, Gary J Parker, Victoria BC Canada

A: Thanks. I will check out those errors/discrepancies.

A2: Boca won 2000-Apertura. ;I fixed that. As far as the other discrepency, both sources (Wikipedia and Albion Road website) I went to have both River and Boca winning 1920 title. I will go check with Sam, at Hasta El Gol Siempre site. He told me there were 2 FA's in Argentina, operating side by side, in the early part of the 20th century: this might be why there are 2 1920 title-holders
